Thomas Tardiff, 3, of Lewiston drinks a cup of lemonade during the Kids that Care lemonade and cookie sale at Montello Elementary School in Lewiston on Friday. First- and fifth-grade students and their teachers baked more than 1,000 cookies to raise funds for the victims of three recent fires in the city. “The kids have been very busy with hands-on learning this week,” first-grade teacher Sonya Laramee said. “It was a day of baking and it was a lot of fun,” Laramee said. “They are cookies baked with love,” she said. Amanda Hammond, second from left, Kelly Johnson, fourth from left, and Laramee organized the sale. More than $1,500 was raised during the sale.
