LEWISTON — L/A Arts is excited to host their inaugural Art Walk Lewiston Auburn on May 31, but before the celebrations can begin, there is work to do. One important endeavor undertaken by the staff of L/A Arts is the transformation of the vacant lot on Lisbon Street into a welcoming community garden and performance space.
The timing of the vacant lot makeover could not be more appropriate, as the first themed art walk is of a Roman ruin-inspired garden party.
L/A Arts continues to model its overall vision around reinvigorating downtown Lisbon Street, taking special interest in non-traditional gallery spaces, innovative canvases and unexpected landscapes.
Julia Seigfried, a landscape architect and friend of L/A Arts, has created a blueprint for the vacant lot remodel. Inspired by the fallen brick, half buried foundation and mix of concrete and green space, Seigfried’s design is a modern take of ancient Roman gardens.
L/A Arts is seeking hard-working, committed volunteers to help renovate the vacant lot, off of Lisbon Street between Pine and Ash streets. The entrance to the lot is on Canal Street Alley.
Community Clean Up of the vacant lot is schedule for Wednesday, May 22, and Saturday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. L/A asks that volunteers, if able, provide their own rake, shovel, trowels and gloves. Interested volunteers are welcome to show up or to sign up for a future clean up date contact L/A Arts at 782-7228 or [email protected].
