1940 – 2013

AUBURN — On Wednesday, May 29, James G. Purdy of Lisbon, was called home to be with the Lord.

Born on May 4, 1940, in Bedford, Ohio, he was the youngest of six children born to Warren and Ruby Purdy.

He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard. Formerly a police officer in Berea, Ohio, he was a deputy on the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department for several years. He also owned and operated the Little Mountain Variety in Bridgton.

He is survived by his wife, Carmen; his sons, James. D. Purdy and wife, Kathie. of Saco, Jeffrey A. Purdy and wife, Julie, of New Gloucester; grandchildren, Joseph. S. Gunn of Saco, Kelly G. Thayer and husband, Oliver, of Saco and Hannah Purdy of New Gloucester. He is also survived by brothers, Warren Jr. and Dan, both of Florida, and David Purdy of Ohio.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Patricia E. Purdy; sisters, Elaine Geiser, and Lavern Nussbaum.
