DURHAM — Voters in the RSU 5 towns of Durham, Freeport and Pownal narrowly defeated a proposal to bond up to $16.95 million for improvements to Freeport High School. The vote was 2,028 to 2,202.

The money would have paid for constructing and equipping additions, and renovating and improving the school building, athletic facilities and grounds.

The $25,855,313 school budget was approved by a vote of 2,414 to 1,716.

The vote to continue the budget referendum process for another three years was 2,624 to 1,450.
