Pasture walk, fencing workshop

GRAY — The Maine Grass Farmers Network and North Star Sheep Farm will host a pasture walk and fencing workshop beginning at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 13, at Collyer Brook Farm, 17 Megquier Road.

The workshop will feature presentations by MGFN board member Ben Hartwell on fencing options, installation tips and design features for new and experienced grazers. The farm is owned and operated by Lisa and Phil Webster of Windham.

MGFN collaborates with University of Maine Cooperative Extension, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association and Maine Department of Agriculture Conservation and Forestry.

Workshop on natural cleaners

LEWISTON – The Patrick Dempsey Center for Cancer Hope & Healing will offer a free workshop for anyone interested in learning how to create natural household cleaners. “The Green Path to Clean” will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, at the Dempsey Center, 29 Lowell St.

A large number of household cleaners contain toxins and many contain carcinogens or suspected carcinogens that are not only harmful to the body but to the environment.

Through this program, presented by University of Maine-Farmington intern Jessica Keneborous, learn multiple recipes for creating natural household cleaners which are safe, effective and simple to create. Through the use of essential oils you can be creative and even blend your own cleaning scent.

Korean War ceremony

LEWISTON — The L & A Veterans Council will hold a special ceremony for the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 27, at Veterans Memorial Park.

There will be several speakers representing all five of the military branches, government officials, governor and mayors, a memorial ceremony, songs by the Just Us Entertainers, ROK medals to be presented and special certificates for all Korean veterans.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. there will be special displays by several veterans organizations, also possibly the Vet Center, VA Clinic, Veterans Homes, etc., for individuals to be able to get any information that they might need.
