LEWISTON — One man was stabbed and two others were questioned Thursday afternoon following a fight on Knox Street.

Police said the victim, 26-year-old Noel Mena, flagged them down at about 4 p.m. at Knox and Birch streets and reported he’d been stabbed.

Several officers converged on the area, but clues were in short supply: Several witnesses reported seeing nothing, police said.

However, investigators did get a tip that a possible suspect could be found in an apartment on the third floor of 22 Knox St. A man inside the apartment was questioned briefly and then led away in handcuffs.

“He had nothing to do with it,” a woman yelled at police as they led away their suspect. “Nothing at all.”

Police later brought a second man to the station for questioning but no charges had been filed later Thursday night. Mena told investigators he was unclear about who had stabbed him, police said.

Mena suffered a single stab wound that was not believed to be life-threatening, police said. He was taken to Central Maine Medical Center where he was treated and released early Thursday night.

The investigation was ongoing.
