There’ll be free parking for shoppers in downtown Lewiston starting today. A Lewiston Downtown Park and Shop Program, patterned after similar programs in other cities throughout the United States, was announced last night by a special committee of the Lewiston-Auburn Chamber of Commerce. Some 50 downtown business places are joining hands in the venture with off-street parking lot owners. Additional memberships are expected to add to the program.

Androscoggin Home Health Services, a non-profit health care provider serving all of central Maine, is completing its first Annual Appeal. The campaign was established to help underwrite a portion of the start-up costs for the AHHS Hospice Program, to cover home care provided to patients with inadequate insurance coverage and to support the AHHS protective homemaking program which prevents child abuse and neglect. More than 300 health professionals and support staff work for AHHS which maintains offices in Auburn.
