PORTLAND (AP) — The National Endowment for the Humanities has awarded more than $400,000 in grants to three Maine organizations.

The Abbe Museum in Bar Harbor is getting $220,000 and the Monhegan Historical and Cultural Museum Association is receiving about $25,000, both for projects that aim to sustain cultural heritage collections. The Maine Humanities Council in Portland was awarded $159,000 for a project titled “Borders and Borderlands: The Acadian Experiences in Maine” under the Institutes for School Teachers program.

In announcing the awards, U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King said the projects help sustain and share Maine’s cultural heritage.
