Philadelphia Fusion 32, Maine Maniacs 30
The Maine Maniacs 14-U AAU basketball team lost a 32-30 heartbreaker in the last 20 seconds of the game to the Philadelphia Fusion  in their 1st Pool Play game in the U.S. Junior Nationals in Washington, D.C., on  Thursday night.
The Maniacs got off to a great start and held a 14–point halftime lead only to see it dwindle away in the second half. Maine went completely cold with eight minutes to go in the game and didn’tscore a point the rest of the game. Caitlin Kane of Mt. Blue led the Maniacs with nine points. Dom Lewis of Lawrence scored five points and dished out fopur assists. Emily Jacques of Edward Little pulled down nie rebounds and five blocked shots.
The Maniacs play two more Pool Play games on Friday at 2 and 8 p.m.at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

Maine Mainiacs 37, Virginia XTreme 17
The Maine Maniacs 14-U girls AAU basketball team came out with great intensity and stymied Virginia XTreme team on their way to a convincing 37–17 victory Friday afternoon. The Maniacs played outstanding defense and evened their Pool Play record at 1-1. The Maniacs play again Friday night at 8 p.m.

Ashley Howe of Thornton Academy and Edward Little’s Emily Jacques paced Maine with 12 points each, and Jacques recorded a game–high 13 rebounds. Greely’s Magaret Hatch hauled in five rebounds and South Portland’s Maddie Hasson had four boards. Caitlin Kane of Mt. Blue added three rebounds and three steals, and Dom Lewis of Lawrence dished out three assists.

The Maniacs will need to win their remaining Pool Play games to have an opportunity to advance to the Championship Round of the 14-U US Junior Nationals in Washington, D.C.
