Middle school football signups

Sign-ups and the issuing of sports equipment for Lewiston Middle School football team will be held on Aug. 16 from 5 to 7 p.m., and Aug. 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the middle school’s locker room behind the building.

All players must have proof of a current physical. Parents will have to complete a school form at the time of sign-ups. The middle school plays in the Mid Coast Middle School Football League. Practice begins Aug. 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. All practices will be held at the LMS/LAP Field. The first regular-season game will be held Sept. 5. Flame to hold tryouts
The Southern Maine Flame, Maine’s premier Fastpitch Softball Organization, will hold tryouts for the 2014 Season. Winners of 72 Championships, the Southern Maine Flame has won four New England championships, 15 state championships and 53 other titles since 2000. A $20 fee is required at tryouts. Tryouts will be held at Wainwright Fields, Gary Maietta Parkway, South Portland on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. You only have to attend one tryout. Softball tournament

The Andy Valley ASA Umpires Labor Day Weekend Class D Softball Tournament will held from Aug. 31 to Sept. 2. The entree feel will be $200. The deadline to register if Aug. 28. For more information, contact Joe Poirier at 782-8782, 891-2569 or joepoirier@myfairpoint.net.

Kents Hill fundraiser

Kents Hill School will be hosting a 1-on-1 basketball tournament from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 and Sunday, Aug. 25. Entry fee is $10 and all proceeds will benefit Lupus Foundation of America.
Golf tourney fundraiser
PORTLANDMaine Boys to Men will partner with The Edge Academy
to host a golf tournament to benefit community youth at Martindale Country Club in Auburn on Sept. 5. All proceeds will benefit the youth of the State of Maine.
Maine Boys to Men is a Portland-based non-profit organization that seeks to reduce interpersonal violence by providing positive personal development education for both youth and parents. The Edge Academy—based in Portland as well—provides the highest level of training and support for competitive softball and baseball players in Maine and in New England.
