AUBURN — A Lewiston man was released on probation this week after pleading guilty to a slew of burglary and theft charges dating back to 2012, according to court records.
Abdirizak Hassan, 20, pleaded guilty to five counts; four other charges were dismissed. He was sentenced to a year in jail, but the sentence was suspended and he was placed on three years of probation.
Hassan, accused of breaking into homes and stealing electronics and other items, was ordered to make restitution of nearly $4,000.
At his court hearing Monday, he had made a payment on that amount and was set free.
While he was jailed, Hassan wrote a letter to a Superior Court justice asking to be set free and vowing to stay out of trouble.
“This is my first time I’ve been in any kind of trouble,” he wrote. “I just want to go home with my family.”
According to the terms of his probation, Hassan was ordered to reside with relatives on Rideout Avenue.
