AUGUSTA (AP) — The Augusta Planning Board has decided that a new Dunkin’ Donuts shop in the city is not their cup of tea.
The board Tuesday voted unanimously to reject a zoning change needed for the Davenport Street project to move forward.
The decision came after board members heard from neighbors, many of whom said that while they love Dunkin’ Donuts, they don’t want one in their neighborhood because of the traffic it would bring.
The Kennebec Journal reports that a representative of the franchisee said traffic in the area is already heavy and engineers could successfully address residents’ concerns.
The board tabled discussion on another proposed Dunkin’ Donuts shop on Western Avenue.
The city already has five Dunkin’ Donuts, but one would close if the Western Avenue location is approved.
