FARMINGTON — A Jay woman is accused of going into Walmart on Wilton Road on Friday and wheeling a carriage full of items out the door without paying for them, police said.
A Walmart employee detained the woman until police could arrive, Deputy Police Chief Shane Cote said Monday.
Sgt. Edward Hastings IV arrested Kathy Offord, 45, on a misdemeanor charge of theft by unauthorized taking or transfer, he said.
The shopping cart was loaded with items valued at about $600, he said.
The company plans to ask for restitution for the grocery items because they cannot be resold, Cote said.
Offord was released from the Franklin County jail on Friday on $3,000 unsecured bail.
She is scheduled to appear at a Farmington court on Sept. 17.
