LEWISTON — A Mass of Christian Burial honoring the life of Roger E. Morin was celebrated by the Rev. Aaron Damboise on Wednesday morning, Aug. 28, in the upper church of the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul of the Prince of Peace Parish.
At the beginning of Mass, Roger’s wife, Venise, and their daughter, Debra Hiscock, draped Roger’s casket with a white burial pall that signifies Roger’s Baptism into a new spiritual life with God. During Mass, the first reading of the New Testament was proclaimed by Roger’s daughter-in-law, Diane Morin. The Prayer of the Faithful was recited by Roger’s granddaughter, Christine Brown. Roger’s good friend and brother- and sister-in-law, Mr.and Mrs. Raymond Beaudoin, brought the offertory gifts to the altar prior to Communion. A delegation from the Lewiston Highway Department was also in attendance. Words of remembrance were shared by Roger’s grandson, Ryan Morin, at the end of Mass.
As the funeral procession arrived at St. Peter’s Cemetery, an entire fleet of Lewiston Public Works vehicles lined the entrance of the cemetery. Employees greeted the funeral procession at attention in tribute to Roger being a longtime employee of the city of Lewiston. At the cemetery, the Rev. Damboise recited committal prayers which ended with Roger’s grandson, Brandon Ryan, playing keyboard and his fiancée, Kayla Hopkins, singing “How Great Thou Art.” The United States Army Honor Detail played “Taps” and presented our country’s flag to Roger’s wife, Venice, in honor of her husband’s service to our country during the Korean Conflict.
The pallbearers were Ryan, Brandon, Nate, Nicholas and Joey Morin, as well as Brian Hiscock. At the conclusion of services all were invited to a reception of fellowship at Marco’s Restaurant in Lewiston. Arrangements by Pinette & Lynch Funeral Home, Lewiston.
