AUBURN — The following programs for teens ages 12 to 18 will be offered at the Auburn Public Library.

Teen Anime Club, 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Teens can drop in to talk about their favorite, or least favorite, manga, watch this week’s selection of anime, and try their hand at drawing characters.

Teen Space Takeover: Back to School Party, 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in the Teen Space. Share stories of the first few days of the school year and play a few games. There will be door prizes and snacks.

VolunTEENS Orientation, 4 to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, in the Teen Space. Interested in volunteering at the library? Teens can attend an orientation to learn about ways they can help out. Register by calling 333-6640, ext. 4, or emailing Donna at [email protected]. An individual orientation session can be arranged for those who can’t make it on this date.

Teen Gaming Hour, 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, Androscoggin Community Room. Take part in video games and snacks. The library has Xbox and Wii, with games rated teen and younger.

Safe Voices, 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, in the Teen Space. Amanda from Safe Voices will visit to chat about relationships and work on projects.

Teens Read! Book Club, 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, in the Conference Room. Discuss books, share excerpts and make recommendations to one another. At this first meeting, participants will choose a name for the group. Snacks will be provided.

DIY Teens! Takeover, 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, in the Teen Space. Join us every month for a new project from duct tape art to photography, create your own video games or make your own magnetic poetry. This month teens will make healthy after-school snacks.

DIY Teens! Writer’s Group, 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, in Study Room 223. If you like to write and share what you’ve written, this group is for you. We will also be talking about publishing this work in a newsletter format in the spring.

Banned Books Week, Sept. 22-28. Stop by the library and look for the banned books display. Check one out and share your opinion.

DIY Teens! Media Club, 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the CREATE! Media Lab. Movies; music; graphic arts. If you can imagine it, you can create it in the Media Lab. Make trailers, podcasts and more that will be posted on the library website.

APL Teens: Teen Advisory Board, 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, in the Conference Room. What do you want at the library? Do you have ideas about what books should be available? What types of programs should be offered? How should the Teen Space be decorated and used? TAB meets the fourth Friday of each month.

Local author Maria Padian will visit from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, in the Androscoggin Community Room. Padian will discuss her recent book, “Out of Nowhere.” This story takes place in Enniston, Maine, a fictional city which recently has become home to Somali refugees. Sound familiar? The book tells the story of Tom Bouchard, a high school senior who is popular, smart and a star on his soccer team. Within this group of Somali immigrants, one in particular – Saaed – impacts Tom’s life. Books will be available to give to the first 20 who sign up for this event, so stay tuned for registration information.

Library hours are Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
