RUMFORD — Less than a week after the Board of Selectmen met to approve new budget recommendations, the Finance Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 10, to approve their own recommendations for the upcoming election.
The Board of Selectmen set a public hearing on the budget for Thursday, Sept. 19, which will be followed by a budget vote from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8.
The election will be the town’s fourth budget vote since June. Residents will vote on the eight remaining budget proposals that have yet to be passed.
Voters originally turned down all 12 money articles on June 11, which totaled $7.5 million. Selectmen cut $1 million from the next budget, which was presented on July 23. The Finance Committee reduced the proposed budget to $7.2 million.
At that referendum, eight of the 12 budget articles were rejected. Passed were funds for health and sanitation, the Rumford Public Library, public service and debt service.
On Aug. 27, voters again turned down the same eight municipal budget articles.
