Pine Cone OES to meet Sept. 15

AUBURN — Pine Cone Chapter No. 26 Order of the Eastern Star will have their life member and senior luncheon at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at the Auburn Masonic Hall, 1021 Turner St.

The group will be honoring the members of the VIP Program from the Auburn Police Department.

VFW Post holding annual picnic

AUBURN — The VFW Post 1603 annual picnic will be held Sunday, Sept. 15. Doors open at noon.

Food will be served from 1 to 3 p.m. and includes free hot dogs, hamburgers, rolls, fixings and bottled water. Members are asked to bring a favorite dish to share.

VFW Post 9150 monthly meeting

LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will hold their monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16, at the Lewiston Armory, Central Avenue.

All officers and members are encouraged to attend.

‘House plant transitioning’

MONMOUTH — Shellie Harding of Longfellow’s Greenhouses will speak to the Monmouth Garden Club at 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, at A Rise and Shine Bed and Breakfast on Route 135.

Her topic will be “House Plant Transitioning in Spring and Fall.” She will explain when, how and where to place plants inside and out. In the fall, she will explain what to check before bringing them inside. The public is invited.

Legion Riders plans breakfast

MECHANIC FALLS — American Legion Riders Post 150 will hold a breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22.

Menu will be scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, home fries, coffee, tea, milk or juice.

All proceeds to benefit RSU 16 Special Olympics. Cost is $6 for adults, $4 for kids 2-10.

HEBRON — Author Annette Vance Dorey will speak on “Maine’s Earliest Female Physicians” at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Hebron Town Office. Book signing available. Public is invited.

N.G. Historical Society program

NEW GLOUCESTER — The Sept. 26 program meeting of the New Gloucester Historical Society to be held at 7 p.m. at the New Gloucester Meetinghouse on Intervale Road will be titled, “Nathaniel Hawthorne Among the Shakers.”

The speaker will be Dr. Steven B. Rogers, a summer resident of New Gloucester, who has lectured on many topics including Hawthorne. Hawthorne’s connections to the Shakers go back to his boyhood in Maine in the 1820s and continued for many years.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Vendor/craft fair for Make a Wish

AUBURN — During 2013 Pepsi Beverages Co. in Auburn has been raising money for Make a Wish of Maine. On Saturday, Sept. 28, employees will hold a Vendor/Craft Fair at the facility at 191 Merrow Road from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

More than 30 tables have been rented and will feature favorite home party companies along with some specialty crafts. More than 30 raffle prizes have been donated by the vendors. Free Pepsi T-shirts will be given to the first 50 people through the door after 9 a.m., as well as free fountain drinks for shoppers.
