BRUNSWICK — A 37-year-old Sabattus man suffered serious cuts in an apparent stabbing Wednesday night on Cushing Street, according to police.

Brunswick police received a call at 6 p.m. reporting a fight in the middle of Cushing Street in front of the Beverage Rack.

“When we got here, we found a 37-year-old man behind the building with lacerations to his arm,” Brunswick Detective Sgt. Martin Rinaldi said at the scene.

Rinaldi said the caller, a Cushing Street resident, reported two men and two women were fighting.

Apparently as a result of the altercation, a 34-year-old woman was taken by friends to Mid Coast Hospital with “a very swollen eye,” a police department release said.

The man, who suffered a laceration to the upper arm that police believe was caused by a knife, was not cooperative with police, Rinaldi said. He was treated at Mid Coast Hospital and then released Wednesday night.

“He lost a lot of blood,” Rinaldi said.

Police had no suspects and no indication of the cause of the fight, he said. Later on Wednesday, Rinaldi said investigators found “significant” evidence at the scene that will be analyzed.

Multiple people questioned at the scene reported seeing nothing.

A witness at the scene, who declined to be identified, said she saw “a bunch of guys pounding on somebody on the ground in the middle of the road.”

The witness said the altercation started at a house at the corner of Cushing and Dunning streets.

Rinaldi asked anyone with information to call him at 725-6670 ext. 162.
