FARMINGTON — Sheriff Scott Nichols Sr. plans to hold an open house of the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, at headquarters on County Way.

There will be an inspection of county deputies and cruisers, and the public is welcome to come and follow along, he said.

This will give people an opportunity to meet and talk to deputies and get a chance to see the new communication center and the one that is currently being used, Nichols said.

The new dispatch center is expected to go online in January 2014.

The highlight of the event will be Nichols’ being shocked with a Taser by Chief Deputy Steven Lowell, he said.

A Taser is an electroshock weapon that temporarily incapacitates a person.

If deputies are going to carry these weapons, it is important they experience what it feels like, Nichols said.

All deputies have experienced it, and now it is his turn, he said.
