MEXICO — After serving residents in the River Valley for 67 years, the Chicken Coop restaurant will close for good Oct. 14 and manager Catherine Ross is planning “one last hurrah” for customers.

The hours will be 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., with the lunch menu served from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. From 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., a “potluck or smorgasbord-type supper” will be offered, Ross said.

“It’ll be an all-you-can-eat dinner,” she said. “We need to get rid of whatever we have in the kitchen.”

Ross invited Jay and Tammy Roy, a country band from Belton, Texas, to provide entertainment in the dining room that evening.

“Jay and Tammy are very popular around here,” Ross said. “They have a pretty big following and they tour all over the United States and Canada. We’ve had them to our restaurant once in the past, and we were able to get about 90 people in here.”

She advised anyone interested in attending to call early and make reservations because she expects a large turnout and seating is limited.

Ross, who has managed the restaurant for the past year, said the Chicken Coop has been on the market for several years. There is a prospective buyer but “nothing has been finalized yet,” she said.

To reserve a seat or for more information on prices, call the Chicken Coop at 364-2710.
