MINOT — The Minot Historical Society met on Sept. 10 at the West Auburn School when teacher Donna Berry presented the program with the help of six members from the Junior History Club.

She conducted the class as an 1850s school would have been. They played outside with hoops, then came in to have the 100th Psalm read, prayer, arithmetic, spelling, penmanship with a quill pen, reading and closed with the reciting of the Henry Wadsworth Longfellow poem, “The Arrow and the Song.”

Following the program, the business meeting was conducted by vice-president George Buker. Reports were given by the Building Committee, Fundraising Committee and History Club.

The next meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Town Office with Candace Kanes on “Maine Memory Network.”

Refreshments will be served following the meeting. Everyone is welcome.
