AUBURN — October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Safe Voices has arranged vigils across the Tri-County area on Monday, Oct. 7, to honor those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, offer hope to those still facing abuse and support those who have survived domestic violence.
The Androscoggin County vigil will be held in Auburn’s Festival Plaza with a procession to Veteran Memorial Park across the bridge in Lewiston.
The candlelit vigil will start at 6 p.m. The vigil will feature guest speakers from the community, survivor stories and a special remembrance ceremony.
All are invited to attend and show their support. Domestic violence is a community problem; we can show that we will not tolerate domestic violence in our community.
Vigils will also be happening in Norway, Rumford and Farmington. For more information contact Amanda Carlson at Safe Voices, 207-795-6744, ext. 25, or via email at [email protected]. Safe Voices’ 24-hour helpline is 1-800-559-2927.
