Danville Junction Grange meeting

AUBURN — Members of Danville Junction Grange will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, at the hall. The program will include a discussion of resolutions to be brought up at the state session in Skowhegan next week.

Refreshments will be served at the close of the meeting. All members and guests are welcome.

Church pantry needs volunteers

AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church is asking for volunteers to help at the High Street Food Pantry from 8:45 to approximately noon, one Thursday morning a month.

The pantry provides hundreds of families with much-needed food items, and is a completely volunteer run operation.

Bean, casserole supper is Oct. 12

LEWISTON — A bean and casserole supper will be held from 4:45 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 59 Sabattus St.

Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for children.

Fundraiser for Moody’s Stables

LEWISTON — A car wash fundraiser for Moody’s Stables in Greene will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, and Sunday, Oct. 13, at Liquid Sunshine, 865 Sabattus St.

Proceeds will help to feed and care for six elderly horses.

Multi-use trails behind McMahon

LEWISTON — Local Boy Scouts and volunteers from the Lewiston-Auburn area will help to develop multi-use trails in the Lewiston City Greenspace in back of McMahon School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12.

The work will be under the supervision of Robert Reed, Troop 007, and Steve Murch, Lewiston City Arborist. Planned work includes clearing trails and developing an outdoor classroom for the elementary school and local youth organizations.

Volunteers should check in at the registration table.

MECHANIC FALLS — Twin City Council 160 of the United Commercial Travelers of America will meet at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at Bucknam Oaks.

Shaker Village ending season

NEW GLOUCESTER — Those planning a fall foliage trip should take a ride to Shaker Village for its end-of-season events.

The final Apple Saturday will be held from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12. Featured specialties of the day include Shaker-made apple fritters and hot coffee, famous Shaker-made mustard pickles and sweet pepper relish, home-grown culinary herbs and teas, yarn from their sheep and free cider pressing all day long. Bring your own apples or buy them at the Shaker Store .

Senior Citizens Cribbage League

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League winners at the Lewiston Memorial Armory on Oct. 3 were: first, Sandy Verrill and Don Haley; second, Dwight Webb and Mike Martin; third, Judy Sirois and Cindy Boyd; fourth, Andrea Metayer and Dennis Gosselin; fifth, Trudy Faunce and Steve Agurkis.

AUBURN — The Lake Auburn Community Center will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in the Community Room at Androscoggin Bank, 683 Minot Ave. The public is welcomed.

The LACC property is a public access point near Lake Auburn, 115 North Auburn Road, with parking, restroom and picnic area. It serves access to hundreds of acres of passive recreational trail use from sunrise to sunset daily, including the Whitman Spring Road Trail owned by the Lake Auburn Watershed Protection Commission.

Recently added were a beach sand volley ball, outdoor skating and group and corporate events up to 50 people. The historic West Auburn Farm barn is also under repair and restoration.

Beekeepers Club meets Oct. 17

AUBURN — The Androscoggin Beekeepers Club will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in the basement conference room of the Auburn Public Library.

This will be an open meeting without a formal speaker to informally discuss beekeeping and the future direction of the club.

Any beekeeper with this year’s honey is asked to bring some for a taste comparison.
