Harvest ham supper Oct. 18

AUBURN — A harvest ham supper, including all homemade desserts, will be served from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at American Legion Post 31, 426 Washington St. Cost is $7 for adults; $4 for children under 12. The public is welcome.

Walk to Remember for baby loss

LEWISTON — Sharing Through Experience pregnancy and infant loss support group will host its 10th annual Walk to Remember on Sunday, Oct. 20, in honor of National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month.

The two-mile remembrance walk will be held at St. Mary’s Women’s Pavilion. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and walk starts at 10.

The walk will celebrate the babies that have been called too soon. A symbolic balloon release will be done at the end of the walk.

All proceeds will benefit The Colby Fund, which enables financial and emotional support to grieving families who have experienced the loss of a baby. For more information, visit babyalligatortears.com.

Christian Skate Night

TOPSHAM — Christian Skate Night sponsored by Grace Community Chapel in West Gardiner will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 20, at Topsham Roller World, 20 Atwood Drive. Doors open at 5:45.

Cost of $5 includes regular skates. Inline skates are $2 extra.

VFW Post 9150 meet Oct. 21

LEWISTON — The Longley-Dionne VFW Post 9150 will hold its monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 21, at the Lewiston Armory.

The agenda includes Veterans Day activities.

All officers and members are encouraged to attend.

‘Flatlander’ author to visit library

AUBURN — A flatlander, by definition, is anyone not originally from Maine. At times, flatlanders seem to be a little confused and occasionally disturbed by our Maine ways. However, author Mark Scott Ricketts will be at the Auburn Public Library as part of the Fall Book Festival at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, to clarify our Maine ways as he shares from his book, “A Flatlander’s Guide to Maine.”

The book is filled with humorous drawings, silly cartoons, and made-up stories to make you laugh. Meet the author and share some laughs at the expense of flatlanders.

Registry of Deeds for research

HEBRON — Larry Glatz will speak on genealogical research from the Registry of Deeds on Tuesday, Oct. 22.

This will follow a short Historical Society meeting at 7 p.m. at the Hebron Town office. Public is invited.

Pickwick Club to host Nayder

AUBURN — The Pickwick Club, Maine’s Dickens reading group, will feature Bates’ English Dept. Chairman Lillian Nayder, speaking on her book “The Other Dickens.” Q and A to follow.
