JAY — Randy Easter is known to many as a teacher, coach, mentor and friend.

He has dedicated countless hours in the community to helping students at school, coaching, timing events and lending computer support at RSU 73 schools. His positive attitude even in the face of adversity has been an inspiration to many.

This spring, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and had surgery. On Sunday, Nov. 10, at Spruce Mountain High School in Jay, a 5K cross-country trail run and one-mile family fun run/walk will be held as a fundraiser for Easter.

Running for Randy will kick off at noon with DJ Rob Leclerc as emcee, and the races start at 1 p.m. The event will go on rain or shine.

The registration fee is $20, and participants age 12 and under get in free. All paying participants will receive a free T-shirt if registered by Nov. 1. Registration on race day is $20 with no guaranteed T-shirt, but they can be purchased for an additional $10 while supplies last.

Registration forms may be picked up at Ski Depot in Jay, and Fitness Stylz and HairWorks in Livermore Falls. Online registration is also available on Facebook under runningforrandy. People can print out a registration from from that site. Day-of-event registration begins at 11 a.m.

There will be refreshments and raffle/auction items available in the school’s cafeteria. Prizes and live music will also be part of the festive scene.
