AUBURN — Ward 5 incumbent City Councilor Leroy Walker is spending more than any other candidate to keep his seat, according to campaign finance reports filed with the City Clerk’s office.

All but four candidates for City office submitted spending reports to the clerk’s office by Friday’s deadline.

Walker has spent $1,938 so far according to the report, purchasing yard signs, brochures and newspaper advertisements.

His opponent, former City Councilor Ray Berube, reported no campaign spending.

In the race to fill Auburn’s Ward 4 City Council seat, Adam Lee is outspending opponent Doris Russell. Lee has raised $398 in donations and spent $263.21. Russell has raised $200 in donations and has spent $171.34.

John Spruill, the candidate hoping to win one of two at-large seats is outspending his four opponents, including two sitting councilors seeking those seats. Spruill has spent $692.68, compared to current at-large Councilor Belinda Gerry’s $455. David Young, the current Ward 4 councilor seeking an at-large seat, has spent $102.90.

The two remaining at-large council candidates, Levi Gervais and Robert Sevigny, reported spending no money on their campaigns.

According to state rules, all candidates were expected to file initial reports on their fundraising and campaign spending by 4:30 p.m. Friday. Final fundraising and spending reports are due to be filed with the clerk by Dec. 18.

Nine candidates registered with clerk saying they did not expect to spend any money in their campaign and are exempt from filing future reports. They are: Ward 2 Councilor Robert Hayes, Ward 5 candidate Ray Berube, at-large councilor candidate Robert Sevigny, Ward 1 School Committee candidate Mike Farrel, Ward 2 School Committee member Bonnie Hayes, Ward 4 School Committee member Tracey Levesque and at-large committee member candidates Ron Potvin and Francois Bussierre.

Levi Gervais, at-large candidate for the City Council, reported no activity in the report.
