1935 – 2013

SCARBOROUGH — Paul R. Valliere Sr., 78, passed away at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House on Wednesday, Oct. 16, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born in Berlin, N.H. on June 11, 1935, a son of Leon and Laurenda (Parent) Valliere. He entered the Air Force immediately upon graduation from Berlin High School. While in the Air Force, he served as a radioman at Clark Air Force base in the Philippines.

Following his discharge from the service, he married Nancy Lee Delyannis and together, they raised six children and shared nearly 57 years of marriage.

He was employed in the trucking industry for more than 45 years, retiring from Holmes Transportation in 1999.

Paul loved the out-of-doors, often returning to his native northern New Hampshire to hike, fish and cross country ski. He was an avid amateur photographer of nature and wildlife. He loved spending time with his family, which often included Sunday afternoon walks at the beach in the middle of winter, and more seasonably, breakfast at Two Lights State Park and birthday parties at Range Pond. He loved gardening, his beautiful dogs and watching the bluebirds choose their homes from the many he constructed in their yard in Gray. He conducted himself with gracious manners, civility and respect towards all he met. His dry sense of humor was well known to his family and friends. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. His loving generosity will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, and their children, Elizabeth (Robert), Elaine (Willie), Suzanne (Peter), Paul Jr. (Suzanne), Janine, and Eric (Christy). He is also survived by his sisters, Louise Burbank, Jean Cooper and her partner, Bob; his brother Ronald Valliere and his wife, Sue; along with his grandsons, William (Sonny) and Scott. He was a proud uncle of many nieces and nephews and their children.

Paul was predeceased by his parents; his brother, Robert; his sister, Claire; and his grandson, Nathan.
