1928 – 2013

AUBURN — William S. Hodgkins, 85, of Livermore Falls, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Androscoggin Hospice House following a brief illness, with his loving family by his side.

He was born in Livermore on July 18, 1928, the son of Merle G. Hodgkins and Emma May (Cox) Hodgkins. He attended school in Livermore. On Dec. 24, 1945, in Portland, he married Geneva DeMillo of Riley; she passed away on Oct. 17, 2008.

Bill worked as a machinist welder for Record Foundry in Livermore Falls from age 17, until they closed. He later worked for International Paper in Jay and finished his career at Howie’s Welding, also in Jay. He was a very talented do-it-yourselfer, creating beautiful woodworking items. He also enjoyed having a good drink with his family and friends. Bill was very devoted to his family, especially to his disabled daughter, “Penny,” who he loved taking for a ride every day.

He is survived by his son, William “Will” Hodgkins and his wife, Jane; and his daughter, Margueritte “Penny” Hodgkins, all of Livermore Falls; two grandchildren, Angela Richards and her husband, Jack, of Livermore and Jeffrey Hodgkins and his wife, Jennifer, of Nashville, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren, Jake and Samantha Richards and Dane Hodgkins.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife; and his siblings, Birchard Hodgkins, Wesley Hodgkins, Ruth Philips, Thelma Gibson, Merle Hodgkins and Eloise Cook.
