The horse driven by A. Luke Daumus of Lisbon Falls, became frightened Friday morning, bolted, throwing Mr. Daumus out and dragging him a distance of about 100 feet, resulting in severe lacerations of the face and head, but no serious injuries. The accident occurred at the Auburn end of North bridge, about 9 o’clock, as Mr. Daumus was driving to that city from Lewiston, having come from Lisbon Falls that morning. It is not known what caused the horse to bolt. C.C. Wilson came along, at about the time of the accident in his automobile, and Dr John Sturgis arrived at about the same time. The injured man was taken to the Central Maine General Hospital. The horse was stopped near Canal street. The front wheels of the buggy were smashed.

City councilors this morning decided to stop collecting trash from commercial establishments, including apartment buildings with eight or more units. And councilors decided to continue recouping trash collection costs from residents through property taxes. “Maybe we could take it out of the property tax down the road,” said Ward 2 Councilor Everett Trask. Councilors had been contemplating setting up a separate fee for residential trash collection as a way to offset spiraling trash disposal costs.
