LEWISTON — The Center for Wisdom’s Women, a day drop-in center for women, has set its November program calendar and announces a new support group.
The group, “Be Healthy, Be Strong,” is for those who struggle with weight issues and self-esteem. It will meet Mondays from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and focus on sharing troubles and solutions, with the goal of participants helping each other feel and do better.
Several other support groups meet regularly at the center. The BLT group for Bisexual, Lesbian and Transgendered women and their friends or family will meet at 3 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21. Support for family caregivers is available on Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. and a weekly Al-Anon group meets on Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m.
Special programs this month include a seminar about “Stopping Bed Bugs.” It will be led by Melissa Dunn from the Neighborhood Housing League. She will discuss the myths and truths about how to avoid and, should you get them, how to get rid of the pests. She will cover responsibilities as a tenant and those of the landlord.
A “Tea, Talk and Travel” presentation about Saudi Arabia is set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20. Polly Robinson will share personal experiences of living in, and adapting to, the cultural diversity of the country and reflect on the place of women in their culture.
Peg Hoffman will return at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 25, to lead a session on positive, healthy ways to manage anger. Tisha Bremner will lead her relaxing class called “AHHH” after hours at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21.
Cooking classes in November are all scheduled at 10 a.m. and include soup making on Nov. 7, bread-baking on Nov. 12 and the monthly cooking club led by Rebecca Dugan from the Nutrition Center of Maine on Nov. 19.
Weekly sessions in include Pat Gardiner’s “Writing Workshop” on Mondays at 10 a.m. and a poetry group led by Amanda Solch, a Bates student volunteer, at 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays.
Dot Treadwell will lead her watercolor painting classes on Wednesdays, Nov. 6 and 13. A craft class to make pine cone turkeys will be on Tuesday, Nov. 12. The Art Van will visit from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27.
The monthly Bingo will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 26. A clothing give-away will be Thursday, Nov. 21. The November birthday party is set for Friday, Nov. 22.
The Center will be closed Veteran’s Day and the Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving. The full calendar of events is posted at www.wisdomswomen.org.
