WILTON — A local woman reported another attempted telephone scam Wednesday to police.
The woman was asked to “guess who,” Jennifer Ladd, Wilton Police administrative assistant read from the police report. She named a nephew and the caller said that’s who it was, Ladd said.
The male caller asked her for $900, because he had been in an accident. He wanted her credit card number. She ended the call.
With no funds provided, no crime was committed but police advised the woman to never give out private information, Ladd said.
The department receives similar complaints frequently, she said. Another scam reported in the past couple of weeks involved callers indicating they were calling for Microsoft and offering to fix the homeowner’s computer.
Microsoft does not solicit business that way, Ladd said, suggesting homeowners not respond to such offers and hang up the phone.
