FARMINGTON — Surveillance video helped authorities quickly identify who pulled a fire alarm Wednesday at the Mt. Blue Campus. The alarm briefly sent high school students, preschoolers and staff out into frigid temperatures.
Farmington firefighters responded to the alarm at 8:49 a.m. The campus was evacuated for about 10 to 15 minutes, fire Chief Terry Bell said.
David Leavitt, director of RSU 9 support services, said he watched the surveillance video to see what happened before the alarm went off. He saw a young child walk up to the alarm and pull it, he said. The preschooler is participating in a program at the school.
The surveillance video cameras installed throughout the school saved what could have been a lengthy investigation. The district has cameras throughout its schools, Leavitt said, and he can review the videos from wherever he is at the time.
Firefighters will do a fire safety program with the class to educate the children, Bell said.
