LEWISTON — Councilors-to-be will get a look at potential committee assignments and other responsibilities they can expect at a special meeting Tuesday.

“Basically, we want to find out which councilors are interested in what council appointment,” City Administrator Ed Barrett.

The public meeting is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. in a Lewiston City Hall meeting room that adjoins the City Council Chamber.

Three new councilors-elect won seats in November’s election: Leslie Dubois in Ward 1, Kristen Cloutier in Ward 5 and Michael Lachance in Ward 7. Incumbent Councilors Donald D’Auteuil, Nate Libby, Dorren Christ and Mark Cayer are returning to office.

“They won’t do anything other than find out who is interested in what positions and, for new councilors, to find out what is required of each one,” Barrett said.

Mayor Robert Macdonald, city councilors and members of the School Committee are scheduled to be sworn in at 7 p.m. Jan. 6 at the inaugural ceremony at the Franco Center. Committee appointments are scheduled to be announced then.

Barrett said councilors will get to work the following night with a workshop review of the city’s five-year capital spending plan.

“We hit the road hard,” Barrett said.

The last scheduled meeting for the current City Council is Dec. 17.
