A warning for youngsters to remain off the ice at Pettengill Park Pond was issued last night by Harry E. Reynolds, superintendent of the Auburn Parks and Recreation Department, who also stated it will be some time yet before the city’s skating rinks are ready for use. Reynolds said the ice on the Pettengill Park Pond is not thick enough to support skaters and he expects it will be at least another two weeks before the skating areas on natural ice in the city are ready for use. The rinks maintained by the department throughout the city will not be ready for at least another week, Reynolds said, depending on the weather. He said he had hoped to have them ready this week, but yesterday’s warmer weather probably glowed preparations.

Joey Gamache Jr. credits his seamstress with a role in his success as a boxer. “She helps me a lot.” said the undefeated junior lightweight from Lewiston of seamstress Diane Levesque. “You gotta feel good out there to do good.” Gamache, 22, said what he’s wearing below the belt affects the way he feels and performs in a boxing match. Gamache wore white trunks that shimmered with hundreds of gold spots during his impressive win over the more experienced Mexican fighter Rafael Gandarilla at the Lewiston Armory on Thursday. “In my outside life I don’t dress flashy,” said Gamache, who was wearing a brown leather flight jacket and faded jeans. “I like the lumberjack look.” But being in the ring is different, he said. “If I look good, I feel good,” he said.
