OXFORD — A Richmond man was charged by police with operating under the influence Tuesday after his truck went off Route 121 and flipped into a ditch.

Bruce Tribbet, 69, was traveling west from Mechanic Falls toward the Raymond Colby farm shortly before 7:30 p.m. when he lost control of his 2003 GMC pickup on the snow-covered road, Oxford police Sgt. Alan Coffin said. The truck slid across the southbound lane, rolled down an embankment and landed on the driver’s side, he said.

Tribbet was transported to Stephens Memorial Hospital for medical evaluation, but did not sustain serious injuries in the crash, Coffin said.

Police smelled alcohol on Tribbet’s breath and found alcohol in the vehicle, giving them probable cause to issue a summons, Coffin said. A blood test was administered at the hospital but police had not received the results by Wednesday, he said.

The truck is a total loss, Coffin said.
