- Delina Gagne, left, and Leda Allaire celebrate their 100th birthdays at the Roak Block Apartments in Auburn on Monday. Residents of the Auburn Housing Authority apartment building threw a surprise party for their two oldest residents. Gagne was born in Lewiston on Dec. 28, 1913. Allaire was born in Manchester, N.H., on Nov. 14, 1913. The two former shipyard workers offered advice on longevity: “It’s because I’m loaded with elephants,” said Gagne, a collector of the good luck symbol. “It’s because we have never been in jail,” Allaire said. Resident Roland Fleming, sitting at table, claps after singing “Happy Birthday.”
