1932 – 2014
FREEPORT — Roger R. Fortin, 81, of Lewiston, died Sunday, Jan. 12, at the Hawthorne House with his family by his side.
He was born in Lewiston on July 26, 1932, the son of Joseph A. and Armandine (Veilleux) Fortin.
Roger worked for Pepsi Cola for 22 years, Pioneer Plastics for 17 years and for 13 years for Twenty-Four Old Lisbon Road long-term-care facility for the disabled, where he made every Christmas special for all residents by collecting donations and presents each year. During his employments, he also managed to work as a part-time handyman for many homes and businesses in the area.
A kind, warm-hearted and gentle man, Roger also had a great sense of humor telling jokes and was also a prankster. He was a very hard worker and was a dedicated husband and father who loved spending time with his family.
A member of Our Lady of the Rosary Church, he also loved music, going to church and helping anyone who needed it.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ludgarde (Denis) Fortin, whom he married on Nov. 8, 1952; his daughters, Diane Paine, Florence Poulin and husband, Lawrence, and Louise Greer and husband, Steven; his sons, Donald Fortin Sr. and wife, Brenda, and Laurier Fortin and wife, Doreen; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rita Rolande Cote and Rita Denis; his brothers, Raoul Fortin and Joseph Fortin and wife, Lucille; his godchildren, Ronald Fortin, Richard Fortin, Sandy Sleeper and Jamie Poulin; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a brother, Roland Fortin; and a granddaughter, Carol Marie Paine.
He will be sadly missed by anyone who was fortunate enough to have known him.
