GARDINER — Police are looking for a convicted felon in connection with a shooting in Gardiner early Thursday morning.
Paul Coyne, 32, has seven active warrants for his arrest and fled the scene of a shooting at Spring Street before police arrived, according to Gardiner police Chief James Toman.
Officers were called to the scene shortly after midnight, and the 26-year-old male victim had a gunshot wound to his leg but was conscious and able to speak with police, Toman said.
The victim was transported by ambulance to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. The weapon involved was a handgun.
Coyne has an Augusta address but is known to frequent places in the Waterville and Winslow areas, Toman said. Police aren’t considering the shooting a random act but Coyne should be considered armed and dangerous.
Coyne is believed to be on the run with his girlfriend in a silver 2001 Chevrolet Impala. Toman said the victim will likely recover from his injuries.
