LEWISTON — Saint Dominic Academy students will come together and employ their artistic talents and enthusiasm to create artwork that will brighten up hallways and open spaces at seven nursing homes, retirement homes and assisted living facilities in the Lewiston-Auburn area.

All of the students at the Auburn campus (grades 7-12) will be bussed to the school’s Lewiston campus, on 17 Baird Ave., to work with the grade-school students (PK-6) in designing and creating the art on Friday, Jan. 31.

The art will be donated to St. Mary’s d’Youville Pavilion, Lewiston; Maison Marcotte Housing, Lewiston; Clover Health Care, Auburn; Montello Heights, Lewiston; The Chapman House, Auburn; Marshwood Center, Lewiston; and Oak Park Apartments, Lewiston.

“This is a great project because students are able to connect with different-aged students and complete a project that brings smiles to others,” said Donald Fournier, principal of Saint Dominic Academy. “This is a great way to live out our call to minister to others.”

The service project is part of the annual Maine Catholic Schools Week (Jan. 26-Feb. 1) which celebrates the mission of Catholic schools: to evangelize students by nourishing faith and encouraging academic excellence while accentuating the importance of community and service in a nurturing environment.

As part of the week-long celebration, Saint Dominic Academy will host a variety of special events. For a complete schedule of Maine Catholic Schools Week activities at Saint Dominic Academy, visit portlanddiocese.org/content/saint-dominic-academy.
