JAY — Spruce Mountain High School has listed what’s happening at the school for the week of Jan. 25 to Feb. 1.

Brownies and Books book club will meet after school on Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the library. Students, staff and community members will meet to discuss “Bomb: The Race to Build — and Steal — the World’s Most Dangerous Weapon,” written by Steve Sheinkin. The next book the group will be reading is “Code Name Verity” by Elizabeth Wein.

Spruce Mountain High School students will attend the Pi-Cone Math meet at St. Dominic’s Academy on Wednesday, Jan. 29.

Juniors and seniors needing to make up English, U.S. history and elective credits can sign up for adult ed classes, which will begin the week of Jan. 27. Students are encouraged to stop by the Guidance Office to sign up or they can also call the Guidance Office at 897-4336, ext. 405, to set up an appointment.

For the next five weeks, students are encouraged to donate worn jeans that are still in good condition to the drop box in the hallway of the high school. Shelby Bryant, a senior, brought this idea to the student body. Her goal is to have 200 pairs of jeans donated. So far, 21 pairs have been collected. This is sponsored by Aeropostale to encourage students to make a difference.

On Friday, Jan. 31, at 1:40 p.m. there will be an assembly to honor the Student of the Month, the Phoenix Award winner and department award recipients. The DAR Good Citizen Award recipient will also be named at this assembly. Robotics will also have a presentation.

The Regional Cheering Competition will be held at noon Saturday, Jan. 25, at the Augusta Civic Center. The top six teams will move onto the State competition on Saturday, Feb. 8.
