Musicians and music lovers young and old are invited to celebrate the legacy of beloved folksinger Pete Seeger at the Orono Arts Cafe on Friday February 7, at the Keith Anderson Community House, 19 Bennoch Road.  In addition to honoring Seeger’s folk music tradition, the event will include jazz, blues, indie, international, and other genres of music and spoken word performances.  Open mic sign-up begins at 6:30, and the show starts at7:00.  Admission is $3.00 for all.  Refreshments will be available, incluseegerding the special February feature, a baked potato bar.  The OAC’s famous root beer floats are free to all who perform on the evening’s program.
Both adult and youth artists are welcome, and need not be residents of Orono to participate.  Performers are reminded that, whatever genre of music or spoken piece they choose to perform, they should plan programs that are appropriate for a family audience and that last no more than 10 minutes in length (about 2-3 songs).
Except for February, the Orono Arts Cafe is held on the second Friday of every month.  It is sponsored by the Orono Schools Coalition for the Arts, an organization of parent and community volunteers working to support arts education in our schools.  Money raised through ticket, snack, and beverage sales at the Cafe are used to help fund arts programs and scholarships.
