1927 – 2014

AUBURN — Rita Theresa Mathieu, 86, formerly of Lemont Avenue, in Lewiston, passed away peacefully early Saturday morning at the Hospice House.

She was born in Lewiston, November 6, 1927, the daughter of Lionel and Marie (Roux) Fournier.

She was a member of Holy Family Church, the Ladies of St. Ann and the Society of the Little Flower.

Our devoted Mother, Rita loved to read and had a love for playing cards with her friends. She also loved to travel and enjoyed attending the annual May Ball at the Knights of Columbus hall with her husband, Fernand, who was a 4th degree Knight.

Both she and her husband shared a passion for fishing at Pierce Pond and going to camp.

Survivors include three sons, Richard and wife, Patricia, of Lewiston, Raymond of Lisbon Falls and Robert and wife, Linda, of Lewiston; one daughter, Suzanne Turgeon and husband, Allan, of Auburn; two brothers, Gerard Fournier and wife, Anita, of Auburn and Donald Fournier of Lewiston; one sister, Jeannine Boisvert of Lewiston. Also surviving are nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Fernand, in 2012.
