1926 – 2014

MONMOUTH — Ruth Elaine Hill Prescott, 87, of Monmouth, died Sunday, Feb. 9, at her home, after several years of declining health.

Ruth was born in Monmouth on May 9, 1926, the fifth child of Lester E. and Orah May (Libby) Hill. She attended Monmouth schools and graduated from Monmouth Academy.

She married F. Phillip Prescott on Aug. 17, 1947, and together they spent many fine summer days fishing, hunting with her trusty .410 shotgun, rock hunting, boating and swimming, often with their three children.

She also enjoyed golfing and playing tennis. In the winter, she enjoyed skating, as well as downhill and cross-country skiing. She loved square dancing and helping Phil make his re-bar animals, as well as walking any time of year.

Ruth worked at American Optical, Chick Brothers and for the state of Maine. She lived her entire life in Monmouth.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Phil Prescott; her three children, Dennis Prescott of Tallahassee, Fla., Melodie Greene of Calais and Victor Prescott of Wayne; four grandchildren, Heather Kolb of Scarsdale, N.Y., Lori Elliott of Panama City Beach, Fla., Jason Prescott of Sand Point, Idaho, and Joanna Rodriguez of Tallahassee, Fla.; along with eight great-grandchildren and her sister, Madeline Moates, of Tennessee.

She was predeceased by seven of her eight siblings, May Ridlon, Theo Parker, Charlotte Libby, Lester Hill, Frank Hill, Marilyn Taylor and Robert Hill.
