JAY — A Rhode Island man is behind bars, accused of sexually assaulting a woman in May 2013.
Wilson F. Alves, 30, of Pawtucket, R.I., and formerly of Maine, is being held without bail at the Franklin County jail in Farmington.
Alves was arrested on a warrant by a Rhode Island law enforcement agency on Feb. 6, Jay police Detective Richard Caton IV said Monday. Caton had a warrant issued for Alves by the Farmington District Court.
Alves was arrested on a felony charge of gross sexual assault when he reached the local jail Friday. Alves had waived extradition in a Rhode Island court, he said.
Caton conducted an investigation after the sexual assault was reported in May, he said.
A conviction on a charge of gross sexual assault carries a penalty of up to 30 years in prison and up to a $50,000 fine.
