RUMFORD — The Good Shepherd Food-Bank and the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition will be teaming up to bring the food bank’s Food Mobile to the River Valley area from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 24, at Marden’s in Rumford for all senior citizens in need.

The Food Mobile, according to a news release by the Good Shepherd Food-Bank, will be “distributing around 7,000 pounds of food, including fresh produce, an assortment of meats, essential non-perishable items and breads to seniors in need in the River Valley area.”

Carol Emery of the River Valley Healthy Communities Coalition said that the project is being coordinated at the RVCC by project coordinator Sandy Witas.

“This is the first year we’re doing it,” Emery said. “From what I’ve heard, there are a lot of senior citizens in the region who could use this.”

Emery added that while the upcoming Food Mobile would be only for seniors in need, there may be a return visit from the Food Mobile for the general public in the future.
