1940 – 2014

AUBURN — Royal Thurston Frank, 73, a resident of Poland, passed peacefully on Sunday, March 9, at the Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to LeRoy and Geneva Thurston Frank on Nov. 11, 1940, in Lewiston. Royal graduated from Edward Little High School in June 1959, and went on to attend Boston College. He worked at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center for many years as a behavioral aide. Royal married his true love, Pamela Walker, on Aug. 11, 1984, in Monmouth.

He loved being with his family and was highly intelligent and well-read, especially on history and politics. He enjoyed his vegetable and flower gardens, playing Hearts with his nephews, playing computer games, family reunions and his dog, Kasey.

Royal had an avid interest in genealogy and took great pride in being a six-generation resident of Maine and a descendant of Revolutionary War veteran James Frank of Gray, as well as several boys in blue during the Civil War and being the direct lineal descendant of seven Mayflower passengers. Many pleasant days were spent with his wife, Pam, and his nephew, Tom, from Germany, hunting for the bones of ancestors in the highways and byways of Androscoggin and surrounding counties.

He is survived by his wife, Pam, of Poland; his children, Cindi and Ron Tillson of Poland and Gil Frank of Virginia; his sister, Sally and Paul Belisle of Lewiston; grandchildren, Ashley and Matt Reutershan, Elizabeth and Robert Martin, Seth Tillson and Emily Sawyer and Nathaniel Tillson and Alaina Dyer; great-grandchildren, Braeden, Lexi, Madison and Jameson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Sue and Ralph Webster, Bonnie and Ron Johnson, and Al and Claire Walker; sisters-in-law, Sally, Jan and Lucy Frank; several special nieces and nephews; and his special buddy, Kasey, his dog.

He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Hal, Freeman, Phil and Timmy; his sisters, Trudy and JoAnne; his special niece, Stephanie Webster; and his dog, Juneau.
