NORWAY — Occupy Oxford Hills will show the documentary, “Bidder 70,” at 6:30 p.m. Friday, March 14, at Fare Share Commons, 443 Main St.

Pot luck refreshments will be available at 6 p.m.

The film is about environmental integrity, civil disobedience, and Tim DeChristopher, who submitted bids at a U.S. Bureau of Land Management auction as a University of Utah economics student in December 2008.

In competition with big oil and gas producers he gained the right to lease 22,000 acres of public land in Utah for the purpose of oil and gas exploration. Yet he has no money.

In fact, he had purposefully disrupted the auction to protect pristine desert land.

Subsequently the Interior Department canceled the bidding results and a federal court convicted DeChristopher of interfering with a public auction.

He served 21 months in prison.

Waiting for his trial and prison term, he proved to be a vigorous campaigner on behalf of climate justice.
