WATERVILLE — Dorothy M. Pond, 88, of Oakland and formerly of Auburn, died Tuesday, March 11, at Lakewood Manor, with her family at her side.

Born in Auburn on July 19, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Esther (Wiley) Phelps. She was a graduate of Edward Little High School and was the widow of Frank Pond, whom died July 22, 2004.

Dot was a housewife; she also was employed as a housekeeper for many years at Pinette Funeral Home and prior to her retirement, worked as a crossing guard for Washburn School in Auburn for 17 years.

She enjoyed her computer, especially Facebook, where she kept in touch with many of her former Washburn School children. Dot was a lifetime member of the Women’s Auxiliary, VFW Post 1603 and American Legion Post 31 in Auburn. She collected dolls, cups and saucers, and enjoyed her pet cat, “Poodie Tat.”

Dot is survived by two sons, Wayne Chapman and his wife, Lisa, of Oakland and Gary Chapman and his wife, Janet, of Auburn; two stepdaughters, Nancy Lajoie of Lewiston and Kathleen Pond of Auburn; two half-sisters, Pauline Phelps of Norway and Ruby Foster and her husband, Don, of New Gloucester; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and two dear friends, Avis Adams and Marilyn Farmer.

The family would like to thank the Curtis family, Inland Hospital, Lakewood Manor, the Sunshine Club and her doctor, Dr. Charlebois, for his special care.
