1934 – 2014

LEWISTON — Monita Buteau, 79, of Lewiston, passed away very unexpectedly on Wednesday, March 12, at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born in Lewiston on Nov. 27, 1934, to the late Albert S. and Emma (Roy) Martin. She was educated in Lewiston schools and went on to graduate from Central Maine General Hospital School of Nursing. She spent many years working as a registered nurse in Lewiston.

On Sept. 22, 1956, she married Charles A. Buteau and spent the past 57 years being “the best wife” to him. She was a devoted and caring wife whom will be deeply missed. Monita was an exceptional wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family.

After retiring, Monita spent her days reading books, making puzzles and playing beano. She spent countless hours laughing and having fun with her many friends. Monita lived her life to the fullest, never letting the problems of life get in her way.

Monita is survived by her husband, Charles; son, Don Buteau and his wife, Brenda; daughter, Claire Storm and her husband, Bill; four grandchildren, Brian Buteau, Valerie DeMambro and husband, Andy, Michael Dumas and wife, Katie, and Karin Mancini and husband, Nick; one great-granddaughter, Allyssa Buteau; a very special godchild, Diane Moreau and husband, Aldo; one sister, Joan Sampson and husband, Maurice; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Albert, Richard, Robert and Michael Martin; and two sisters, Priscilla Farrand and Lorraine Poretta.

Her family would like to thank the caring staff at St. Mary’s emergency room, and especially Dr. Richard Kahn, for their heroic efforts and kindness.
