Yes! Rangeley Friends of the Arts would like to make it perfectly clear. The RFA Lakeside Theater is a community arts center and will continue showing movies in addition to showcasing live arts events.  Having just taken ownership of the Lakeside Theater in December 2013, the non-profit organization has had much to take on, plan and decide. RFA is using the winter and spring time to reorganize, make a business plan and be ready for an Open House Celebration on May 24.

There will be 19 live events taking place between Memorial Day and Labor Day, leaving plenty of nights available for the showing of movies. With current equipment, most movies available in any format except digital can be shown at the theater.

Should the community decide it is important to have first-run movies available, it would be an upgrade to digital projection equipment which is currently close to an $85,000 expense. One of the major movie studios has announced it is going to digital-only, with the other studios expected to follow suit. Whether a special campaign could take place to raise the necessary funds will be something to explore in the future. For now, know that movies have not “gone away” and that they will be back this summer!  RFA looks forward to seeing you at both the live events and movies on the big screen!Lakeside Theater
